So recently I've been super stressed out about what I am doing for High-school. Being Homeschooled, I have to find a co-op, curriculum, ect, that I want to use. I finally found an awesome co-op, well what I thought was an awesome one. We applied. And we were denied.
The reason?
OK! I am going to say it, I am NOT a Christian. Yes I am an atheist. People make that such a dirty word.
That doesn't mean I am not a good person. I genuinely love life, people, and the world around me. I respect other peoples religions, I don't criticize, overlook, or judge people of religion. Heck most of my friends are religious. The problem is, people can't treat me that way back. I thought Christianity was about treating others the way you want to be treated.... so if YOU want ME to accept your beliefs, than you should accept mine.
But... apparently that is not how it works...
I have never met a Christian that fully accepts my beliefs yet in my life. That is sad and needs to change. It's like racism, but with religion. Being a homeschooler that is an atheist, surrounded by christians and religion, I feel like a third class citizen, that no one cares about, even though I KNOW I deserve better.
SO I CHALLENGE ALL OF YOU! Whatever you believe, to just accept everyone, because it sure would help the world be a little happier, and maybe just maybe you can make someones day a little brighter.
Just be kind.
It's that easy
Great Post Mae! I am a Christian but I appriciate and respect very much what you had to say. It takes gut, and I am very proud of you for posting this! :-)
ReplyDeleteWell done!
Thanks for reading!

It's alright! xD
DeleteAs a Christian, I find it shocking you would be turned away for not being one. I have many atheist friends and we all get on fine. Acceptance is defiantly one of the keys to getting along- I have friendly fights with my friends about our different beliefs, but at the end of the day we get along because we're not hung up on our differences.
ReplyDeleteHope things start to look up for you soon :)
I appreciate that! Thanks for being a great person!

Okay... I'm just going to let you know straight up what my thoughts are, and if they offend you, I'm sorry. But please read all of it before judging, all right?
ReplyDeleteI'm a Christian, and supposedly my goal is to spread God's word and such, but I do also respect others' beliefs; I really do. I have a friend who can't celebrate Christmas and such, but do I hold that over her head? No. Do I hold it over anyone else's heads if they can't do things like that due to religious aspects of their lives? No! A person can believe what they wish to believe, and I respect that. But the only problem which I do agree with you on is that people are often being racist or holding some sort of prejudice to other religions. I can see why you would think that Christians can be full of prejudice to others who might not believe in the same religious aspects, because I see it, and it's sad. I don't tolerate it, which is why I actually do talk to people from other religious sections and such, and I don't try to wash down on them, "YOU SHOULD BELIEVE THIS BLAH BLAH BLAH."
Besides, it's like, why can't we all be friends? :( I'm really proud that you got your voice out though; a lot of people wouldn't have been able to vocalize that out well and would rather have kept it inside. I'm Christian, but assuming and thinking bad thoughts onto those who aren't Christians; it isn't right. Not at all. I really hope you find another co-op that will accept you.
xoxo Morning
I am glad to see someone who accepts everyone. I especially like your comment about why everyone can't just be friends. Thanks for your opinion on my post!!

I'm so sorry that you didn't get in Mae, that's awful. I'm sure you will find somewhere else though, maybe even better! :)

ReplyDeleteIn the homeschooling community, I see it's very common for students to be Christian, so I can see how you are left out sometimes. That sucks :P
ReplyDeleteGood luck to you in finding a good high school curriculum!
